My Process

I tend to get inspired by light and colour usually, first of all. Sometimes a phrase in a book or movie will get the thoughts rolling.

I see and hear things on my journeys in my environment…how different light hits the same chair or building at different times of the day. The patterns that are made. How one colour can influence another, and how they can relate to each other. What emotions come up when I hear certain phrases or see colour combinations.

And then I think about it for awhile. How will I translate that into the ink?

When I started using the inks, I was using a lot of black, white and grey. It’s incredible the colours they themselves can form and reveal. I think a lot of that was due to the fact we were in the deep of Covid, and there as so much uncertainty and unknown. Then, as the seasons changed, and things got more hopeful, I was attracted to blues, in all their shades and hues. But now I have been really trying to push myself to notice and play with bright colours. To show the joyful experiments that can come from unexpected combinations. The happy accidents that I am again experiencing when I am trying to interact with the world.

I’m constantly exploring and trying new things. Where are the limits, how can I push those boundries, what can I develop and try?

Thanks for joining me on my creative exploration!
